Irish Focusing Network presents Nách Tú - Focusaigh as Gaeilge
When: Thursday 21st May 2026
Time: 7pm - 9pm (Note Start time is 7pm)
Hosted by: Elaine Goggin
Where: Online
The Irish Focusing Network invites you to gather with us for a journey of exploration around our relationship with the Irish Language, ár dteanga dhúchais. Experience the Felt Sense of receiving our native language in an embodied way, an bhealach corpraithe!
Don't worry, ná bí buartha, if you only have a cúpla focal, this gathering is not about learning or being able to speak Irish. It begins first and foremost with our relationship and connection to our language. It will primarily be presented in English and you will be given a foclóir agus cúpla focal to use in your Focusing partnerships. The approach will be very gentle and childlike! In the breakout/connection rooms we will Focus using Robert Lee's Cross-Lingual Focusing approach (which will be demonstrated beforehand), so no matter your level of Irish or Focusing we can hold space and be at ease with each other.
As we have seen, Irish phrases like, Tá bróm orm (Sadness is upon me) agus Tá an leabhar agam (The book is with me) show how differently we express ourselves through this ancient language.
The evening will include threads of Manchán Magan's sharing, some experiencing from Dennis Windego's course “Indigenous Wisdom in Trauma Recovery with Land Based Focusing Oriented Therapy”, agus le haghaidh spraoi (and for fun), some Children's Focusing!!
Do I need to be able to speak or understand Irish to attend?
No, with Robert Lee's Cross Lingual Focusing we can focus with each other in any language, however if you are familiar with Gaeilge and the Irish culture you will get more from the gathering but you are more than welcome to attend and we invite you to apply the explorations to your own language.
Bíonn gach tosú lag – Every beginning is weak
Who can take part?
Anyone who is a member of our network. Some experience of Focusing and Listening is required.
About Elaine
Elaine is a Focusing Trainer and Children's Focusing Trainer with The International Focusing Institute. In 2023, she downloaded Duolingo and re-entered her Irish language journey! After experiencing some Cross Lingual Focusing sessions on the Advanced Weeklongs with TIFI, she was blown away by her sense and experience of Focusing in Irish even though níl ach cúpla focal aici! She hopes this workshop will be the beginning of many Focusing as Gaeilge evenings within our community, where we can explore ourselves and journey deeper through ár dteanga dhúchais.
